.Kuwait - L1986 issues "Stolen Notes"

Currency - Dinar (KWD)

A bit of history here in case you were not born then or too young to notice this historical event.

Below I have posted a complete set of the Kuwaiti third dinar series first issued in 20.02.1980 (L1968).

Iraq, under the late Iraqi President Saddam Hussein (b.1937-2006), invaded Kuwait on 02.08.1990 which started the first gulf war in the region. Following the invasion, Saddam Hussein annexed Kuwait and made it the 19th province of Iraq. The invasion lasted for about 207 days and on 25.02.1991, with the help of the United Nations United States-led coalition forces, the Iraqi forces were driven out of Kuwait. During the brief occupation, the Iraqi forces looted billions of Kuwaiti dinars from the Central Bank, apart from many other luxury goods. Following the liberation of Kuwait, the Kuwaiti government withdrew those L1968 series dinars from circulation on 24.03.1991 and ceased legal tender on 07.05.1991. The government demonetised these dinars on 30.09.1991.

A complete set consists of ¼, ½, 1, 5, 10 and 20 dinars and those looted notes were printed with specific prefix denominators range of:-

¼ dinar p11d - #54 (۵٤) to 68 (٦٨)
½ dinar p12d - #30 (٣٠) to 37 (٣٧)
1 dinar p13d - #47 (٤٧) to 53 (۵٣)
5 dinars p14c - #18 (١٨) to 20 (٢٠)
10 dinars p15c - #70 (٧٠) to 87 (٨٧)
20 dinars p16b - #9 (٩) to 13 (١٣)

I have no evidence to say that the above notes posted came from those looted Kuwaiti dinars by the Iraqi forces. These notes may have been released prior to the invasion, however these notes all fall within the denominators range of notes looted.

.Kuwait - 2014 New Series

A complete set of new notes released on 29.6.2014. These new notes are all printed on cotton based paper material with denominations issued remain unchanged, from quarter to twenty dinars. The Kuwaiti dinars are still the strongest currency in the world, much stronger than the Bahrain dinar and the Oman rial. This full set of Kuwaiti has a face value of approximately US$130+/-. Whilst many central banks around the world ceased issuing lower denomination notes due to inflation, the Central Bank of Kuwait continues to issue the quarter and half dinar values. There are not many banknotes nowadays printed in fractional values. The other country which still does that is Bahrain with the half dinar note (2007 issue).

.Kuwait - 1994 Issues

This is really one currency that no one should ever leave their home without it. Because of its strong value, the two lowest denomination notes are still in fraction denominations and they are also printed in small note size, including the one dinar value. This full set that I have uploaded all have the same signatures. All you need is just one full set. Chasing all signatures issued can easily break the bank.

These notes were issued to replace previously series following the end of the Gulf war. During the Gulf war, the invading forces of Iraq under the leadership of the last Saddam Hussein looted many of its currency. In order to overcome this, the entire previous series were declared worthless and a new series of notes was issued.
