Currency - Somoni (TJS)
The National Bank of Tajikistan announced on 16.11.2021 the issuance of banknotes of 10, 100, 200 and 500 somoni, and these notes are all printed with the year dated of 2021. The other two notes for the 20 and 50 somoni printed with the same year date of 2021 were already issued and circulating in mid 2021. This announcement completed the full set of all notes printed with the same year date of 2021. The 5 somoni is no longer issue. The last print for this denomination was dated 2013.
The two notes of 20 and 50 somoni which were released earlier, are improved banknotes, and both are printed on hybrid material with a composition of 80% cotton paper and 20% polymer substrate.
These 2021 series of notes are all reprints of the current series, first introduced in 1999. The designs are basically the same for all notes except that the back of the 100 somoni note has now changed from the Presidential Palace (2018 print and before) to the Kokhi Navrouz State Complex. The 500 somoni was added to the current series in 2010. Like the previous issues, this 500 somoni is also printed on hybrid material. The 500 somoni is still the largest denomination of banknote circulating in the country.
All notes are printed with the National flag of Tajikistan on the back of the note, in tri-colour of red, white and green. In the middle of the flag, is a crown with seven stars surmounted in an arc shape on top of the crown. The national flag of Tajikistan was adopted in November 1992 following the break away from the Soviet Union. Independence day for Tajikistan was achieved on 09.09.1991.
As expected, all the 2021 notes bear the signatures of; -
