جمهوری اسلامی ایران
(Islamic Republic of Iran)
Central Bank of the Islamic Republic of Iran
Currency : Rial (IRR)
This is an odd note that I have in my collection. I believe this note was issued in 2018. The signatures on this note belong to Abdolnaser Hemmati and Masoud Karbasian.
The design on the front depicts the late Supreme Leader of Iran, Ruhollah Musavi Khomeini, who ruled Iran from 1979 until his death in 1989. He was 89 years old.
On the back of the note, it features the Wind Catchers in Abarkooh. This building was built during the Qajar Dynasty and has been featured on the 20000 rials since 2015. Abarkooh is about 715 kilometers south of Tehran. The Qajar Dynasty ruled the State of Persian from 1789 to 1925. The Qajar's empire also once included the territories of Georgia, Azerbaijan and Armenia before losing them all to the Russian in the 19th century.
