This is a reprint of the 50 rials dated 2010 with enhanced security and additional security features. Whilst this note is dated 2010, it was released to the public on 02.06.2019. This note was originally issued to celebrate Oman's 40th year of National Day.

In comparison to the first issue, the new security features of the enhanced note are: -

Front:
A Golden security patch window (Varifeye CC Patch) shows the following: The denomination; the Central Bank of Oman's main entrance; name of the Central Bank of Oman in both Arabic and English; the color of the window changes from gold to blue under any source of light; a Golden Magnetic Windowed Security Thread (RollingStar Security Thread), the direction of the line moves and changes color gold to green when tilting the banknote; and Spark Live Truspin in a shape of a crown changes color from gold to green when tilting the banknote. Also the colour of the crown on the bottom left has changed from green (first issue) to gold.

Reverse:
Golden security patch window (Varifeye CC Patch) on the left side of the banknote changes color from gold to blue under any source of light.

The rest of the designs are the same as per the first print: -
Front - Sultan Qaboos bin Said, who passed away on 10.01.2020 due to colon cancer. He was born in 1940 and became the Sultan of Oman in 1970. Next to his portrait is the Ministry of Finance and Economy building in Muscat. Other features are national emblem of Oman, the Royal Crown and Fort Al Mirani which is situated in the old city of Muscat;
Back - Cabinet building (L) and Ministry of Commerce and Industry building (R) both situated in the capital of Oman, Muscat.

Despite this note being initially issued to celebrate Oman's 40th National Day in 2012, this reprint note is also printed with the same commemorative texts on the back of the note.

Like the first print, this note is also printed on Hybrid material.

It is not sure if other notes have been reprinted and are waiting to be released prior to the passing of Sultan Qaboos. His successor (first cousin) Sultan Haitham bin Tariq Al Said was named the new Sultan of Oman on 11.01.2020. Going forward, we would expect the portrait of the new Sultan printed on the notes. Potentially, it might even be a commemorative note to celebrate his first full year to the throne next year. Perhaps we may see a new note celebrating the country's 50th National Day too!!
